Listening to you (3 day courses) Because of shift constraints, some companies find it difficult to release people to attend 5 day courses. Also, some delegates feel that a 5 day PLC course is too demanding & as a result they do not get the most from the training. Many Allen Bradley sites have a complete mixture of PLC-5, SLC 500 &
ControlLogix PLCs interconnected by a number of different data & control
networks. You can have DH+, DH485, RIO, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet,
Profibus DP, ASi, Interbus & more. What does this mean for the average maintenance team who are just about coping with the PLCs themselves? Answer, a bit of a nightmare! As control systems become more clever, the programs become more complex. With data passing over networks, between PLCs & other intelligent units, traditional fault-finding skills of tracing I/O signals between field device, I/O module & the PLC in many cases is no longer good enough. Maintenance people have to be able to identify & know about the different networks that are used, how they are configured, how to untangle where data is being sent to or coming from, typical symptoms of abnormal operation & how to test & troubleshoot both hardware modules & cabling. |
